      Questions and Answers

Electric fence: what is it for?

The Gemi electric fence - 100% Made in Italy - is used to ward off wild animals such as wild boars, deer, foxes, etc. The purpose of electric fences is to protect the territory from unsightly invasions. It is also used to contain animals such as cows, sheep, pigs etc. It has nothing to do with hunting. We have all the legal certificates available to produce and sell electric fences. This is the only legal solution for those who want to protect their plantations.

Is the electric fence dangerous for people?

The electric fence for animals is neither dangerous for people nor for animals. As with everything, even for electric fences there is a standard that establishes the values to be respected. The fence energiser is a product that emits intermittent pulses with a low amperage.

What do you need for an electric fence for wild boars and other animals?

To create an electric fence for animals you need: a Gemi energiser - 100% Made in Italy - for fences that carries the current to the fence, an electrified conductor wire for the fence and insulators for electrified fences screwed on the posts to hold the wire.

Is the 6mm² electric wire for fences suitable for wild boars, or do I have to take the sling?

The 6mm² thick electric wire for fences is suitable for wild boars and large animals. The wire for fencing has a tensile strength up to 100kg, 8 conductor wires and a dispersion of 0.15 ohm/m. The sling for electric fences is suitable for electric fences for horses.

At what distance should fence posts be planted?

We recommend planting the posts at a distance that depends on the characteristics of the ground; if the ground is flat, put one every 5/10 meters, if it is a windy or uneven area, put them closer together.

I have to make a fence, which electric wire do you recommend?

The 2.2 mm² fence wire is suitable for small animals and small electric fences. E.g.: Sheep, goats, porcupines, rabbits, wolves, dogs, cats, chickens, foxes, peacocks, turkeys, hare, moles, badgers, weasels, squirrels. The 4 mm² thick fencing wire is suitable for medium to large animals. E.g. breeding pigs, fallow deer, etc. The 6 mm² wire for animal enclosures has a leakage current of 0.15 ohm/mt, which makes it possible to fence several kilometers and is suitable for large animals. E.g.: Wild boar, deer, cows, mouflons, bears, etc.

Why insert 3 poles for the grounding of the electric fence?

Grounding is a fundamental thing for the functionality of the electric fence for animals, so it is recommended to do it correctly. To have the total discharge of current by the energiser, it is necessary to make the grounding by inserting 3 galvanized poles of 1 meter in the ground. They must be positioned 3 meters apart, 80 cm in the wet ground and 20 cm outside, and then connect them with the yellow cable. Together with the electric fence, we supply only 1 meter of cable that must be connected to the first pole. It is recommended to do it where there is the presence of vegetation, therefore a moist soil. Arid soil is not conductive. According to the tests carried out, placing 3 poles in any type of terrain, there will be no problem with functionality. If you put only one stake, the power of the current felt will be less than its range and the animals will be able to cross the fence.

How long does a battery last for the portable energiser, and which one should I use?

For a B12 energiser it is sufficient to use a 12V 40Ah car battery. The autonomy, if there is no dispersion in the electric fence, is about 10/12 days. Otherwise it lasts less.

I have to put 3 wires inside the electric fence. How far should I put them?

The wires inside the electric fence must be inserted according to the size of the animal. For small animals, the first wire inside the fence should be inserted 20 cm away from the ground, then just leave 20cm/30cm. For animals such as wild boars, the conductor wire for electric fences should be left 30 cm from the ground and so on. For large animals such as horses, cows, the common thread should be left at 60/80 cm from the ground.

The current is a bit far from the electric animal enclosure. What to do? How to join two fences?

If the current is far from the electric fence, for your Gemi energiser - 100% Made in Italy -, we have the high-voltage crossing cable that can work on the surface or underground, without discharging. With this cable it is possible to carry current on the fence, without any dispersion. The cable for electric fences can also be used to join two fences, then connect one end to a first fence and the other end to a second fence, when there is little distance between one fence and another.

How many meters can I use the electric wire for high voltage fences?

The thickness of an electric cable for fences is 3 mm and can also be used for more than 100 meters, but it is only suitable for 30/40 meters. If two electric fences have to be connected at a distance of many meters, it is advisable to pass the conductor wire by air. Otherwise create two separate electric fences.

How to make splices to the conductor wire for electric fences?

The junction of the conductor wire for electric fences for animals can be done with a simple knot between two ends, it is recommended to do them only where necessary.

How to see if there is electricity on the fence?

To check if there is current on the electric fence for animals, just bring the tip of a screwdriver with an insulated handle a few mm away from the fence wire. The moment you hear a ticking, it means that there is current on the electric fence.

How to install the Electric Fence ?

An energizer cannot be kept outdoors. It must be kept indoors to prevent damage from the weather. In order to discharge all its current, it must be earthed by inserting 3 galvanized 1 meter stakes into the ground. They must be placed 3 m apart, 80 cm in the ground (wet) and 20 cm outside, and then connected with the yellow-green cable. The device has a red positive cable at its output which is connected to the fence and a yellow-green cable which is connected to the first ground stake. Never connect two electrifiers to the same wire, as the two impulses may cancel each other out, causing problems. You can connect two electrifiers to the same fence, but keep them on two separate lines of wire.
